A large unmistakable plant, somtiimes growing up to a metre (39.5 inches) high. Large soft silver leaves coated with dense and woolly fine white hairs. Bright clusters of yellow flowers appear in December, turning to brown seed heads in January. Named 'Sea Cabbage' because it was eaten by visiting sailors in pioneering days. Found on sandy seashores just above tide lines. Common on the Falklands and also found on neighbouring Fuegia and Patagonia.
